All but the very first series 1’s have had next to no rust treatment on their chassis from the factory. Whilst this probably kept costs down, it means that the chassis’ tend to reach the end of their life before the rest of the vehicle. We can fit 1/4 or 1/2 chassis to some vehicles to keep them on the road and do all kinds of welding repairs to get the MOT pass you need but sometimes, the best thing for the vehicle is just to replace the chassis.
We replace the factory chassis with quality Richard Chassis galvanized units which will be good for many years to come. By galvanizing the chassis after production is creates a layer of zinc over the steel which stops corrosion even in harsh environments. The process coats the inside and the outside of the chassis and gets in all the hard to reach areas which conventional rust treatments would not be able to reach.
Taking the chassis off is very involved and lots of parts of the vehicle is taken apart. As such it’s a great time to do some other jobs which will be easy to access at the time. Parts differ according to vehicle but as a rule we can do:
- Brake lines
- Timing belts
- Bushes/Ball joints
- Bulkhead repair or replacement
- Body repairs
